A print after the painting by George Jones that originally hung in the new Naval Gallery at the Greenwich Hospital depicting the dramatic moment Lord Nelson boarded the 'San Jose' during the Second Battle of Cape St. Vincent on February 14, 1797. This scene was Part I of a series sold by Cassel & Company called, 'The Story of the Sea.' Nelson, in flashing white, poses to strike with his sword in the in the center right. The empty deck in the foreground leads the eye directly to him. Clusters of men engage in sword fights among fallen bodies and objects behind Nelson adding to the mood of urgency and chaos. On the top left poop deck, the Spanish Flag Captain, Don Jose Delkenna holds his hat over his head and with his other hand, offers his sword hilt-first in surrender. The Second Battle of Cape St. Vincent was part of the French Revolutionary Wars in which a British fleet defeated a larger Spanish fleet.
