A view of the USS 'Constitution' anchored off Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island where she was stationed at the start of the Civil War. The walls of Fort Adams are behind her along with a large auxiliary paddlewheel steamship and a small two-masted sailing vessel on the left side of the print. This print is a testament to the durability and prominence of wooden, sail-powered vessels in the wake of developments in steam and ironclads.
