The younger man holds onto him from behind, kneeling on the whale with an expression of trepidation. Lighting pierces the sky thrice in the background, and storm clouds are depicted in detail. A ship with sails is barely visible in the background. The image is marked "W. Roberts" in the bottom left; under it is the text, "JOHN TABOR'S RIDE."
