Monochrome cartoon of a man hanging on to a harpoon-line, which is stuck in the back of a whale which is in mid-dive into the sea. He is depicted in midair as the line coils out behind him to the whaling boat, on board which his comrades look on with expressions of consternation. Title printed below image. "52" and "ILLUSTRATED COMIC TALES" printed on right margin. Verso shows three more scenes: a courtroom comic entitled "Pleading his own Cause; or a hard case" and two small illustrations, "Tom Piper" and "Sea Serpent".
