Hand-colored, updated map of Iceland from 'The English Atlas' by Moses Pitt published between the years 1680-1683. The map is heavily based off of the map of Iceland by Ortelius, first published in 1590. Gone are the fantastical sea creatures in the surrounding sea and the pictorial reliefs illustrated through the profile of mountains are less exaggerated. Mt. Hekla, though toned down, is still depicted as an erupting volcano. Water nymphs hold up a shell with a putto containing the title. Blank verso.
