Uncolored engraving of ships sailing down a fjord. There are high, rock-studded ships on either side with suggestions of glaciers upon them. On the right hand side of the watery channel is a mountain from which a vast plume of smoke is arising, indicating the presence of a volcano. There are small houses on a flat bank in the distance. The rightmost foreground ship has let down a small boat with a single silhouette in it; the boat is attached to the ship by a line. At top right, the text :to: 2 Tab: CD P.29" is printed. Key features of the scene are marked with letters.
