Colored engraving of a large whale, mostly dragged up onto land but with its tail still in the water at the bottom right of the image, being cut into slabs by four men with ropes and cutting tools. On the shore, two pairs of men talk. There are three simple wooden buildings, two barn-like and one built on stilts, visible. Near the building on stilts is a pile of indistinct objects; at the base of it are some whalebones. In the foreground to the left is a small arch made from whale bones.
