Certificate of membership number 993 to the Boston Marine Society. Issued to Robert C. Mackay on May 7th, 1844. "Boston. N. 993. These are to certify that Rob. C. Mackay Esq. was by a majority of votes regularly admitted a member of the Boston Marine Societyat a meeting held the 7th day of May 1844. Given under my hand and the seal of the Society this day of July, Annoque Domini 1844." Signed by the secretary and President. Certificate contains engraved images of maritime scenes and vignettes, including a spouting whale on the left side. Wax seal at bottom measuring about 2.5 inches.
