Bicycle No. 7 [Number 7] [# 7]
Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: Boyd, Patrick
Date made: 1987
Materials: reflection hologram; glass
Measurements: 8 in x 10 in
Nomenclature: fine art
Classification: holograms
Clear glass hologram set atop a sepia-toned, black-and-white photograph of an urban city street; multiple-exposure shows 7 different green images of a man riding a bicycle; when viewer moves correctly, the man appears to ride across the street (appearing in the center of the hologram); after crossing the street, he turns and ride up the sidewalk in the foreground (finishing in the lower left corner of the hologram); good effect, but difficult to view correctly; if one is hand-holding the hologram, it can be turned so that one sees the man ride one image at a time; when the work is hung, it is difficult to gain the same effect, as different exposures appear at the same time.
Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
