Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: Molin, Nils-Erik; Stetson, Karl; Royal Institute of Technology
Date made: 1969
Materials: laser transmission; glass
Measurements: 23 in x 20 in x 1 in
Hologram (interferogram) set within a large piece of green-painted wood; red image shows a round white disc with interference fringe patterns on the inner portion of the disc; printed on the wood above the hologram is "Holographic interferometry is used to study vibrations in objects. Here, a glass disc was vibrated with sound waves during exposure. The black areas were moving, the white remained still. Studying vibration patterns helps determine the design of musical instruments, jet engine fans, and loud speakers. Hologram by K.A. Stetson and N.E. Molin, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, 1969."
Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
