Hologram (interferogram) set within a large piece of green-painted wood; printed on the wood above the hologram is "Holographic interferometry is also used to study fast-moving objects in space. Here, a double exposure shows the shock waves made by a bullet fired into the air. Using a pulsed ruby laser, the first exposure recorded the air in the bullet's path. The second froze the bullet as it passed through the space. The dark lines show the pattern of shock waves. Hologram by R.A. Wuerker, TRW, Inc., 1966."; however, it is difficult to discern any image in the plate using standard laser light.
Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
