A lithograph of the yacht 'America' winning the Royal Yacht Club Cup at Cowes that was originally from a sketch taken on the spot by Oswald W. Brierly. As the 'America' veers to the port side, men in a small dinghy on the right foreground wave their hats at the yacht. An auxiliary steamboat filled with spectators also cheer in the background on the right side of the print. Built in New York by members of the New York Yacht Club, the 'America' challenged the English yachting establishment, and beat the best of the British yachts with great ease. The trophy was subsequently named after the yacht to become the America's Cup. The New York Yacht Club maintained their winning streak for 25 challenges over 113 years.
