The starboard-side view of the clipper ship 'Schomberg' at a port broadside to broadside with the small steamboat 'Samson.' She flies signals and is surrounded by various vessels in a busy port. The clipper ship was built for James Baines' famous Black Ball Line that took regular passages from Liverpool to Melbourne. She was one of the few luxurious ships built to bring emigrants to Australia during the gold rush. Although built to compete with fast-sailing American vessels, she never got to break any records as she was wrecked December 25, 1855 40 miles off Cape Otway, Victoria, Australia.
