This is thought to be an experimental rule given the unusual scale set which is described below. The rule was likely made after 1900, due to patent date in the gutter of June 01, 1900. It is stamped Keuffel & Esser CO. N.Y. in the gutter but initial impression suggests German manufacture from the scale designs. End Stamp: 74x The scale set is divided into 2 sets: The upper half of the obverse scales are: A, C [ D, L set from A = 1 to 10, C & D = 1 to Sqrt(10) extended, and L from 0 to 5, the lower half of the obverse scales are: L, C] D, A set from L from 5 to 0(10), C & D = Sqrt(10) extended to 10, and A = 10 to 100, the upper half of the reverse slide scales are sine, 5° 44' (arcsine 0.1) to 18° 26' (arcsine (sqrt 10)/10),and 18° 26' (arc(sine (sqrt 10)/10) to 83° 30', the lower half of the reverse slide scales are tangent, 5° 42' (arctan(0.1) to 17° 32' (arctan (sqrt 10)/10),and 17° 32' (arc(sine (sqrt 10)/10) to 45. The equivalent length of the slide rule is 20". The obverse upper C scale is labeled "0+1" on the left, the log scale is labled "L" at both ends, the lower D scale is labeled P-1 on the right. The reverse slide tine scale is labled "S" at both ends, and the tangent scale is labeled "T" at both ends. There are guide arrows on the L scale to indicate the scale combinations.
