Three-quarters stern view of a three-masted vessel flying a flag with a cross on a white ground, on a choppy sea. On the two crow's nests of the ship are emblazoned crosses. This ship, San Gabriel or Sao Gabriel, was Vasco de Gama's flagship on his first voyage from Portugal to India in 1498.
