Color image of Jonah emerging from the mouth of a dragonlike creature, presumably the whale, onto a shore upon which there is a vine-covered trellis (rendered in rudimentary perspective) under which a nude man lies. The text reads, "JONAS REJETÉ SUR LE RIVAGE" (English: Jonah thrown back onto the shore) and below this, "(Cimetière de Calliste commencement du 3e siècle)" (English: Catacombs of Callixtus, beginning of third century). The text indicates that this object is a relatively recent reproduction of a painting from the Catacombs of Callixtus, a significant early Christian burial ground in Rome which was rediscovered in 1854.
