Page from a Vulgate Bible, from the book of Jonah and entitled "PROPHETIA IONÆ." Page number is 643 (top right corner). Below the title is a woodcut with two images, with an elaborate border of curlicues and pairs of small nude children on columns. The left panel of the woodcut shows a bearded man in a city, preaching or talking to a company of hooded men and a small boy, all of whom (except the boy) are bent over. The divider between the two images is stylized with a brick- or stone wall-like pattern. The right image shows Jonah, who is bearded, being spat up by the whale, depicted as a giant fish. In the background is a ship at sea, a coastal city, and another whale's head emerging from the waves. Text is in two columns with a line dividing them. There are printed marginal notes on the right margin. Initial "E" of the text ("Et factum est verbum Domini ad Ionam filium [...]") is embellished with a pattern of vines and is not enclosed in a border.
