Colored engraving of a large crane lifting a whale carcass, tail first, out of the water at a harbor. It appears to be steam-powered based on the large smokestacks on the base. A crowd of onlookers watch from shore, and there are several boats, including one marked "NEPTUN.", in the foreground and background. Below the image is the caption, "LIFTING A WHALE." On the top right corner there appears to be part of an inset of another image.
