Prof. Benedict J. E. Isserlin stands by the sixth century BCE artificial "harbor" or drydock (cothon) on the Phoenician island-settlement of Motya, near Marsala in SW Sicily, in 1971. Harold E. Edgerton conducted sonar surveys along the island edge beyond the cothon in 1971 at the invitation of Prof. Isserlin. (CC)
