Portrait of a sleeping man, shown sitting upright, slight off-center to right, greenish in color; depending on angle of light, one can also see an unidentified blue area of light, shaped roughly like an earthenware jar, sitting in the center of the plate, roughly behind the portrait of the man; a silhouette of an unidentified flange-like object sits in front of this blue area of light; based on the title, the unidentified objects may be an item created by physicist/holographer Peter Bryanston Cross. In November 2012, Peter Pryanston Cross wrote to the MIT Museum: "The unknown object in the holographam is the holographic image of a supersonic aerofoil. If you look carefully you will see the supersonic shock. The image was made at Cambridge University 1983."

Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
