Face (Self-Portrait)

Major collection: Holography
Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: Sowdon, Michael
Date made: 1975
Materials: reflection hologram; glass
Measurements: 8 in x 10 in
Nomenclature: fine art
Classification: holograms

Portrait of a man's face, apparently from a mask of the artist's face; appears as if the man has been in a fight, as his right eye is swollen shut, and material (dried blood ?) is coming out of one nostril, right eye and bridge of nose; face looks slightly off to the left; much emulsion damage so that a large ovalular portion of darkness in the center of the glass is all that remains; the image appears within this region; green image.

Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
