Stephen Benton was a pioneer in holography, inventor of white light transmission holography also called "rainbow holography" or "Benton holography." Benton filed his patent application for this new technique in 1969 and it was awarded in 1972. "Holography Blocks" has been described by Ruud van Renesse as a "a brilliant example of the technique he invented; the holographic film is extremely transparent, amazingly clear of diffusing noise and displays an exceptionally bright holographic reconstructions of a scene of acrylic cubes." When viewing the actual hologram, moving left to right illustrates the three-dimensionality of the cubes. Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
