Newton's Apple

Major collection: Holography
Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: James, Randy
Date made: 1976
Materials: white light transmission; film
Measurements: 4 1/2 in x 5 1/2 in
Nomenclature: fine art
Classification: holograms

Three holograms intended to be displayed in sequence, each showing a different image of the same apple. The first hologram (MOH-1977.41.01) shows an entire apple; the second (MOH-1977.41.02) shows a half-eaten apple; in the third (MOH-1977.41.03), only the core remains. When images are placed on top of each other in the same frame, different views are available depending on the viewer's position.

Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
