Oriental Shadow Theatre
Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: Klein, Dave
Date made: 1981
Materials: laser transmission; glass
Measurements: 8 in x 10 in
Nomenclature: fine art
Classification: holograms
Small round stage that resembles a ball; small dancing figure appears on stage, with its shadow on wall behind; floor in front of stage radiates toward foreground, with a strange hinged object running along the center of the floor toward the viewer; around the stage is a spiral pattern that may represent the drapes around the stage; when viewer moves, the spiral pattern seems to rotate; difficult to view entire image at once; one can see the stage and floor in the bottom half of the glass, or the spiral pattern in the top half separately when viewed at just the correct angle of light, but not together (possibly because it is a multiple-exposure hologram ?); red image on a thin glass plate.
Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
