Glass III

Major collection: Holography
Named collection: Holography Collection
Object type: hologram
Maker: Culbert, Bill
Date made: 1985
Materials: reflection hologram; glass
Measurements: 10 in x 8 in
Nomenclature: fine art
Classification: holograms

A fluted wine glass and light bulb appear at center, with a wine bottle on either side; excellent vertical parallax, as the angle of the objects changes depending on one's vertical orientation, so that one can even see the top of the glass; an odd shadow appears on the surface of the work; clear sillhouettes of the bulb, glass and bottles appear; the slightly darker areas give off a diffraction grating pattern when the hologram is held at a certain angle; artist's name, title, and date appear at bottom of hologram.

Please note that due to the unique challenges of holography as a medium, high-resolution digital images are not available for most items in the holography collection. Please contact us for more information on reproducing images of holograms.
