Created by Rand McNally for American Airlines just after World War II, the air globe captures the optimistic sentiments that technologies such as aviation would make geographic and political boundaries meaningless. The first graduate program in aeronautical engineering was offered at MIT and to this day, the Institute is a leader in aerospace education.
