[This item] is an early Sperry Calculator which K&E went on to sell as Model 4016 or 4017 in about 1906 depending on the gearing of the hands -- which is not obvious by simply looking at the calculator. By 1909 it had been replaced by the later model of Sperry/K&E calculator with concentric nuts. It is the natural successor to Calculigraphe calculators they sold first. Note it is also not known who made any of the Sperry or K&E devices, or where they were made. A conversation with Mr Gerd Keuffel, great grand-son of the founder, during the IM 2011 meeting elicited the opinion that K&E were unlikely to have made any of these devices themselves, the founders were well known to have visited Europe on a regular basis looking for items that K&E could market.
