Major collection: Science & Technology

Maker: Date made: date unknown
Measurements: 17 1/2 in x 12 in x 11 in
Nomenclature: photographic tools and equipment - high speed photographic equipment

To make high-speed motion-pictures, Edgerton designed a camera without a shutter that rushed the film through continuously at speeds around 75 feet per second. In a dark room, the regular flashing of the stroboscope acted like a shutter. Doc, Germeshausen, and Grier modifed the conventional Ernemann camera for high-speed use by removing the original mechanical shutter and intermittent motion mechanism.
