The Strobotac went into production in 1935; this is a prototype. The small stroboscope was mainly used for measuring and adjusting the speed of motors and other industrial machines. The operator would point the Strobotac at the mechanism and change the frequency of the flashes by turning the large knob on the side. Once the light and the machine were synchronized, the speed of the machine could be read on the scale on the top of the instrument.
