Reproduction printed on glossy paper of an engraving from 1849 showing a New Zealand whaling station with two huts, a laundry-line, a dog, and several figures standing, and some sitting in a circle. The text below reads "THOM's WHALING STATION, PORERUA." and appears to be an exact reproduction of the original captioning from 1849. The shadows in the reproduction are very dark and there are clouds of shadow around dark areas of the image, which may be an artefact of the photography process or of the aging of the photographed engraving.
