Hand colored lithograph depicting a side view of an unidentified whale ship flying the American flag. One whaleboat is being lowered into the water next to another that is already on the sea; to the right, men in a third whaleboat pursue a spouting whale which has a shark-like top fin. In a box at the base of the image is printed "AMERICAN WHALER". In the lower margin is printed "Lith & Pub by N. Currier" and "152 Nassau St. Cor of Spruce N.Y."
