"On Pan-X film, self-documented by photographing a blackboard sketch on the same roll (nice idea! Juris and I cut the roll in half). This used a Ronchi ruling (any grating would do) to pre-disperse the light from a mercury arc. This anticipates some of Emmett's later work on with three-grating interferometers." (Leith's notes; from sheet `Materials collected on 5/19/93 by S.A. Benton, at Ann Arbor,' which can be found in the accession file for the accession number above)
