Three sheets of film adhered together with clear tape to form one continuous image (each sheet is a 120-degree hologram); film is placed in a special rotating structure [see Notes below]; as structure rotates, viewer sees a computer animated sequence that shows the changes in America's population from 1790-1970 on a rotating map; the title (American Graph Fleeting: United States Population Growth 1790-1970, A Computer-Holographic Map Application) appears on the first panel, followed by the credits for the work [see Notes below]; after the title and credits, an outline of the U.S. is shown with the New England area shaded in; the map rotates as the structure rotates, with the shaded area growing larger as the years pass; under the map is a year that is constantly changing as the structure rotates and as the shaded area grows; above the map are captions in small letters that discuss America's changes in population; at the center point of the hologram's rotation, the captions disappear, leaving only the map, which continues to rotate until it eventually ends up right side up at the end of the rotation; as the year get closer to 1970, spikes begin to appear and grow taller, representing population growth in the larger cities; the titles and credits are shown briefly and are difficult to read as they quickly disappear as the structure rotates; the letters in the captions are quite small, which makes it difficult to read them; rainbow-colored image.
