Richard L. Fork of Bell Telephone Labatories teams this large marine snail with a laser to learn more about the body's nervous system. Fork irradiates the snail's nerve fibers with a laser beam to selectively stimulate nerve cells without damaging them. the Bell System is interested in this type of research as just one part of its constant convern with all aspects of communications.
